He has been running track for ten years and was ranked fourth in state and sixteenth nationally before he even entered high school. He was second in state his freshman year of high school and the one who gave the Wolves track team enough points for a a state title three-peat. He is only a sophomore and the best triple jumper in America. The junior national team wants him; his name: Bryce Lamb.

“It’s a great experience,” Lamb explained wearing his dress clothes before a varsity football game.

That’s right; he’s not only the best triple jumper nationally but is also on varsity football team. Apparently he can do it all.

“Last year I wrestled too,” he went on, “But I think I just want to focus on football and track this year.”

He hopes this newly directed focus will put him first in the state of Arizona and help push the track team to another state title..

“It’s a bit complicated. I’m ranked nationally not for school but for my running club.”

Lamb runs for the Arizona Cheetahs, a running club based out of Chandler which is a serious competitor in track nationally.

Last year, Lamb made it all the way to the national track meet in Baltimore going up against fellow sixteen year olds in his favorite competition: the triple long jump.

For those who don’t know what the triple long jump is, it is a long jump with three jumps, instead of one. Seems simple, but is it?

Lamb explains, “When I tell people I triple jump, people always look at me like, ‘huh?’ It’s really funny.”

If this summer he does as well as last year Lamb has a chance to go with the junior national team to the Czech Republic for the international track meet.

“They (the national coaches) will be watching me all year making sure I don’t get hurt and helping me train,” Lamb said.

Lamb along with the Wolves track team hope to ride the success of the past two years into this year, “Oh yeah I plan on taking state!”

His confidence is what makes this young track star so talented, he doesn’t focus on the mistakes but quickly turns his focus on what he does best. Lamb knows if he tries hard enough he could make it to Europe this coming July.
