With so many genres out there in the world right now, it’s nearly impossible to be unique. One Chandler based band To Tyson’s End, formally known as Best Benefits the Dark, mixes screamo, metal and a bit of a softer side to create their own.

Lead by front man Joe Wright, who graduated last year, the band first caught my attention when numerous people were spreading word of their performance at last year’s Race for the Cure, a benefit that helps the fight against cancer.

A screamo band with a heart? Now that’s amazing. And that’s exactly what these kids have, heart.

Don’t let their songs filled with emotionally gut wrenching screams from David Snyder, graduate of 2005 over the vocals of Joe Wright stop you from thinking this band doesn’t think about each song as individually, taking each step as careful as possible.

“We don’t always follow the same style in a particular song because we like to mix it up,” says Snyder, “We aren’t just straight screamo or straight hardcore metal either; we like to have that change depending on how we think each individual song should go.”

Juniors, Steven Bobzin playing guitar, Will Ronning on bass and Joe’s little brother Toby on drums round out the quintet.

“We were all friends before we started the band,” explained Ronning, “it helps with a lot of our disagreements by being able to trust the others judgments.”

This five man band has transformed from a hardcore screamo band to a band with emotion, sense and a direction they want the band to go.

“We’re trying to make a style that everyone can like,” explained Joe Wright.

However he knows that not everyone will like this style of music.

He added, “It’s all about finding what you love to do and doing it to the fullest.”

The band, like many others, is fresh faced and trying to find their niche.

“Having the band being able to explore what we want is a really good feeling,” Bobzin explained, “even though a lot of people consider us as just being a screamo band.”

With recent gigs at The Real Bar in Tempe the band has grown into a band who doesn’t just sound good on recording, but on stage as well.

“We try our best to put on an entertaining show for the ears and the eyes.” Explained Snyder.

Not only do the boys of Tyson’s have plenty of shows in this upcoming month but they also have planned to record a four or five song demo as well.

“We’re going to be busy over this October break,” said Toby Wright, “we’re hitting the studio hard and with a lot of energy.”

The band is currently looking for more shows at venues like The Clubhouse, The Real Bar and free shows at Zia. This band is hoping to gain respect of the music community and gain a huge fan base who wants to find a new genre of music.
