I have a friend; she’s gay. I have another friend who isn’t. I have one friend who is five-feet-ten inches, and another who barely hits five-feet-one inch. Everyone has a friend who is different from him or her. That is where the attraction comes from. They have what we don’t and we strive to learn more.
On Nov. 4, 2008, not only did we vote on who should be president, but on individual acts and laws for each state. The majority of the citizens of California voted yes on Proposition 8.
For anyone who does not know, Proposition 8 makes marriage between same-sex couples illegal.
They are not recognized from the state as legally wed. There was a lot of controversy that came from this amendment because prior to Nov. 4 a similar ban was overturned in May of 2008.
Who’s to say whom someone falls in love with? The saying “opposites attract” does not apply to gender only. Let people decide for themselves what they want. We choose our friends just like boyfriends or girlfriends. Friends love each other, so do couples whether homosexual or heterosexual.
None should judge before they know. I think people immediately give a bad name to those who are different. Whether it is a different religion, difference in mental state or difference in sexuality. Unless a person is aware of that difference, I believe they become ignorant.
The word ignorant is used so lightly in today’s world. My definition is thinking as well as speaking against the unknown. More and more people are becoming aware of same-sex couples and accepting it.
However, our society is still largely ignorant. They base their opinions on what little they do know and do not decide to take the next step and learn more.
Gay marriage is a tough topic. Often times it makes people uncomfortable. Those who aren’t gay do not fully understand, just like me.
I could not tell you the history of gay rights but what I can tell you is that it should not be an issue. There shouldn’t be a difference between the rights of heterosexuals and homosexuals.
This includes marriage.
The only difference between a gay man and a straight man is his preference. Homosexuals are not out to “get” non-supporters. They are looking to be happy. Isn’t everyone striving for happiness? So why not allow them to achieve it?
I hurt for those affected by the passing of Proposition 8. Those affected aren’t just those that are gay. It is anyone with a gay friend or family member.
This ban truly does not make sense to me. It prevents normal people from living a fulfilled life. Banning gay marriage just makes the gap between gay and equal rights further apart.
Under the Declaration of Independence “all men are created equal.” Nowhere does in mention all straight men are created equal.
A friend of mine complains she keeps hearing it was her choice to be gay. It was not her choice to face discrimination. She did not choose to be given different rights.
She is gay. That is her personality, that is her life. If that was her choice then I guess my other friend decided to be five-foot-one inch.
That seems like a pretty interesting choice to me.
