Like a herd of wild animals the student body crashed through the auditorium doors, stormed to the seats and anxiously waited for what was to come.  Murmurs of excitement mixed with shouts from rowdy seniors.  The lights went down and the first strains of Britney Spears “…Baby One More Time” echoed throughout the auditorium, setting the tone for Mr. AHS 2010.
“It was footsteps away from being a freak show, but it was also the epitome of a high school male,” sophomore Ryan Livezey said.
Though the crowd booed as some of the judges were introduced, the incident did not damper the mood of the evening. Filled with celebrities, talents and an interview portion, the boys tried their best to win over the judges and the crowd. Celebrities ranged from senior John Freeman’s Eminem to junior Kevin Foley’s Toyota Camry. Senior Luke Stanley’s Shaun White impersonation came out on top with both the crowd and judges.
While celebrities got the crowd laughing, the talents continued to hype the showgoers. Best Dancer winner Will Nostra experienced trouble when it came to his talent. He made a remix of “Bad Romance” by Lady Gaga, but instead the original was played. Not missing a beat, he continued with his dance and played it off as if nothing happened.
Senior Tyler Earley awed the audience with a talent never before seen at Mr. AHS—dancing in darkness as a glowing, green stick figure.
“I thought [Earley’s performance] was just cool,” senior Lauren Armentrout said.
Another crowd pleaser was senior Warren Holly’s “Manolution of Dance,” which received a strong reaction with the usual “Warren Holly” chant drowning out the laughs. However, senior Mike McCabe’s look back from elementary school to present came out as the winner of best talent.
“I think I won because my friends were in [Mr. AHS] and so I got to help in as many talents as I could.  I wanted to make [the show] funny.  I just wanted to go all out.  There was no going halfway.  [The experience] was unreal, incredible.  I’ve never won anything before, so to do it in front of a sold-out crowd was just crazy,” McCabe said.
McCabe won over the crowd and the judges with all parts of the program.  Impersonating Olympic gold medalist Apolo Ohno, he donned child skates and a strip of artificial chin hair.
During the talent portion of the night, McCabe played the electric bass tuned to a cello, which he affectionately called the “bello.”  He also recorded and played a video highlighting the joys of elementary school years.
After Edelman said the winner was one of “Da Boyz”, McCabe knew he had claimed the title. The show successfully raised $3,755 for this year’s prom.
