At-a-glance

The Athletic Director’s new secretary experienced a change in environment from her previous career while learning her own responsibilities as well as the staff of Revere High School.

Alyssa Papadopulos, formerly in the advertising business, applied for the position of secretary to the Athletic Director, Bill Schumacher. After Elaine Lindberg retired after twenty two years of employment at RHS, there were approximately sixty to seventy applicants.

Papadopulos’ new job involves many tasks.

"I try to keep Mr. Schumacher organized. Every day I’ll call and check to make sure other schools have their schedule the same as [Revere] does. I’ll check buses, schedules, practices, away games and validate them. I also help with football season tickets and have to see where the families want to be on the seating chart," Papadopulos said.

Baird acknowledges how much effort Papadopulos exerts towards her responsibilities.

"It’s so much work; every bus, every practice, the coaches, the referees. She has to coordinate who they are, what their contact information is, she has to pay them. . . .There’s a lot that goes into it," Baird says.

Papadopulos may also have the task of improving RHS’s athletic portion of the website.

"The website’s already designed, but I think there [are] ways of enhancing it to make it more user friendly. . . .we want to improve communications between stake holders, parents, coaches, and players," Schumacher said.

Schumacher appreciates Papadopulos’s presence and ready to learn attitude.

"I feel really comfortable working with her. It’s good because I’m relatively new to the district. I’ve been doing this for a number of years in the athletics, and having somebody to work with side by side is what I like," Schumacher said.

Papadopulos has enjoyed her time as a secretary and is excited to become more familiar with RHS.

"I don’t know a lot of people; I’m looking forward to meeting the staff and students. Every day I’m learning more of what I need to do," Papadopulos said.

Attendance secretary Jessica Baird works closely with Papadopulos because their offices are conjoined. Baird often helps assimilate Papadopulos with how some office tasks run. She has also introduced her to other staff members.

"Mainly I have helped [Papadopulos] with whom to contact for certain things, people’s responsibilities here, finding kids, and general logistic knowledge. [I’m] helping her get oriented," Baird said.

Papadopulos helps Schumacher with the daily planning for athletic events, as well as maintaining order and organization.
