Revere has achieved excellence for 12 straight years. - Emma Harding
Wednesday, October 19, 2011 By Angela Henkel
Revere High School has achieved academic excellence for over a decade, proving that students, teachers and the district are hardworking and determined.
RHS Principal Phil King explained what it means to have academic excellence in Revere.
"To me, academic excellence means proving the rigor for students to achieve great things. This means taking challenging classes and completing work in which students can achieve at a higher level," King said.
While individual GPA is a key component in achieving academic excellence, OGT and OAA scores are important as well. Superintendent Randy Boroff spoke of Revere’s Performance Index. The Performance Index is a rating for different districts that shows whether the schools OGT and OAA scores are improving or downgrading.
"Our Performance Index has increased dramatically in the last three years; two years ago it was a rating of 105.2, last year it was 106.3, and now this year, 106.9. The average rating for Performance Index is 100, and Revere has advanced over that rating. The Performance Index is essentially based [on] OGT and OAA scores for the district, and Revere takes pride in this," Boroff said.
The Performance Index is not the only aspect Revere takes pride in.
"We are very proud because we are one of the only 18 school districts in the state of Ohio that has achieved an excellent rating for 12 consecutive years," Boroff said.
Assistant Superintendent Kathy Bearer explained that Revere’s students are achieving the top two levels of performance, accelerated or advanced.
"We rose to accelerated and advanced, from a 74.6 to a 78.6. I think that academic excellence is really about ensuring that students achieve their best," Bearer said.
Recently, Boroff said, the district created a new mission statement: "Launching education and social leaders into a diverse world."
"Not only do we need to prepare students academically, but we need social leaders to respect diversity, to stand up for what’s right and to be honest. We feel at Revere schools, that that’s what we should do," Boroff sai
