The Revere High School cheer team participated in the Ohio state competition and finished twelfth out of twenty teams this year.

The RHS cheer team qualified for the state competition at the regional qualifier. RHS was one of twenty final teams to qualify in Division Two. Coach Moira Clark led the team to a twelth place finish this year. The team has performed well at the state competition in the past.

"In the past we have [finished in] first, second, third, fifth and tenth place several times," Clark said.

Only teams that receive a high enough score at the regional qualifier go to the state competition.

"In order to go to the state finals you have to attend the regional qualifier and receive a certain score. If you qualify then you are invited to compete at the state championships," Clark said.

Senior Macy Mruk is a captain of the team. Mruk was on the cheer team all four of her years at RHS. Mruk is proud of the team and their performance at states, but feels they could have done better.

"Our team is usually known to do very well at states every year. We just had unexpected problems in our routine this year," Mruk said.

The cheer team consists of varsity cheerleaders from the basketball and football squads. There were five seniors on the team this year: Mruk, Meghan Stiff, Andrea Rykalla, Casey Andrews and Ashley Taylor. Junior Kelly Robson is proud of the job the seniors did this year and will miss them when they graduate.

"It is going to be very hard to replace the seniors, and they did an amazing job this year," Robson said.

Next year will be Robson’s fourth year on the team, and she has many goals for next season.

"I want the team to be drama free and for everyone to bring their best tricks forward," Robson said.

The last performance that the senior girls experienced together was at the state competition on March 4.
