Senior Daniel Moore pins his opponent to the floor. Moore took second for his weight class at the team’s first meet at Olathe South.

The wrestling team is off to a good start for the season despite losing a large number of seniors.

"We have a close team that will finish strong at the end of the season," said senior Thomas Lewis. "We had a rough start this weekend with some of our matches but we’ll improve."

The team started its season at Olathe South. At their most recent event the team took home nine medals most of which were third place. However, seniors Thomas Lewis and Daniel Moore took silver. Overall it was a good experience.

The team competed at Springhill for their next competition.

Aaron Haffey, sr., said, "This last weekend was a different sort of set up with our schools competing. There was the individual competion as well as an overall competition."

Haffey added, "We did alright in some of the individual events but as a school we weren’t ranked as high."

The wrestlers start practice with warm ups and running.

After that they "go live" where coaches teach new moves and they are tried out and practiced.

"Some of our team goals for the year are to send as many people to state as possible and to be an overall close and reliable team." Lewis said. "My personal goal for the season is to make it to state."
