With the 2008-09 school year coming to a close, preparations are already in high gear for next fall.
This includes changes in policy. First is a tweak to the dress code. A section was added that tights are not a substitute for pants.
Also, the alcohol policy was reworded so that it is to-the-point and clear.
“Every year we try to clean up the wording in the handbook that can prevent misconceptions,” said Vinduska.
The big changes for next year according to Mr. Vinduska include the changing of seminars to grade-specific enrollment and changing college classes from Allen County to Washburn.
“Counselors have always wanted grade-specific seminars because it is easier for grade-specific speeches,” said Vinduska. “Also, it will help transition and continue a career studies and development class started by this year’s freshman in Success 101.”
The Washburn change has not been confirmed due to a printing deadline, however a meeting was held between Seaman administrators and Washburn personnel. The change involves taking classes through Washburn online and making three to four on-campus appearances every semester. The cost is at a reduced rate, but more expensive than the current Allen County classes.
“Washburn has legal authority,” said Mr. Vinduska. “We have two options to share information with student and parents to change the minds of Washburn officials or get the law changed by going to our local representatives.”
“I am not happy with the decision, but hopefully after the meeting Washburn can persuade me that this is a good decision.”
This change would not happen until the fall of the 2010 school year and would not affect already enrolled seniors for the 2009 school year.
