With this year’s Homecoming theme of “Viking Play list,” the USD 345 school district set their sights high. Elmont Elementary went with a satire of Guns N Roses’ “Welcome to the Jungle.”
“A group of parents gave the kids options to choose from, and Welcome to our Jungle was the one they voted for,” said Elmont Elementary’s sixth grade teacher Ms. Audra Steiner.
Each club, school, or sport that participated with this year’s floats had plenty of willing helpers to construct and design.
“There (were) 44 kids working on the float. The whole class usually participates,” says Steiner.
“(We had) about 20 kids who worked on the float. My favorite part of constructing the float was everybody having fun together,” recalls Laurie Tolin who was in charge of Pleasant Hill’s float “Seaman’s Biggest Ipod.”
The participants dug deep into their time and piggy banks to help fund and construct their pride and joys. Ms. Tolin says they spent about $200 on theirs.
“We will have a 10 foot Ipod on our float with other decorations as well. Each student working on the float will also have their own two foot Ipod that they are making individually,” says Ms. Tolin.
Among those participating this year will be the freshmen center with “Woodstock”, SHS Vikettes with “Grease”, SMS with “Michael Jackson”, and Logan elementary with “Lion heart.”
