Christian Academy is a very athletic school, mostly known for basketball. But this year a new sport has been added, we now have our first ever equestrian team! The school got the desire to have a team with the growing number of kids that ride, and wanted to take their riding further. It is being funded by the Christian Academy Booster Club, and the families of the riders. Not just anyone can join, certain requirements must be met. The participant must have some experience, and at least one year in a lesson program. Some of the girls already had local coaches, and they were chosen to be the CA team coaches. Jennifer LeFever is the middle school coach, and Natalie Kimball is the coach for the high school.
Joy Perry, mat teacher here, is also the organizer of pretty much everything they do. The girls have already been to their first competition which was November 17, at Bridle Stone Farm, in Camden South Carolina. High school rider, Brennan Perry says, “Its great because it gives me more opportunities. I would love to go to college and be on an equestrian team, and this is almost exactly how shows would be on the college level, so I think it is better preparing me.” Brennan has had horses all her life, and began showing them around seven or eight years. She has been riding and showing ever since. When asked what she was most excited about, she replied “I am most excited about the outcome of my experiences. It is so much different riding random horses in a show for the first time, than riding my own horse who I train with multiple times a week.” The expectations of the girls are high, and they are hoping to go to regionals this year.
Well, good luck Christian Academy equestrian team!
