About 40 students gathered to play Halo 3 in the video game tournament on March 27 in C.J. Addington’s room.

The winners were decided through elimination format; with the winners moving on to the next round while the losers dropped out. The last remaining team was the winner.

Juniors Wolfie Chavez and Arturo Escamilla were the winning team.

“I chose him [Escamilla] because he is my best friend and we are a good team,” said Chavez.

The boys got involved because they were confident in their Halo skills and enjoy playing it.

The two boys, after winning, received a pre-order of a video game of their choice for being the champions, while the runner-ups were given T-shirts. They were also honored during the spring sports rally last Friday.

“I got Resident Evil 5,” said Chavez. “It felt satisfying to win and made me confident that I’m good at [Halo].”

There was no cost to sign up and the tournament required no funding because all of the tournaments game consoles, copies of the game and controllers were all given to the cause or being lent to it.

“The idea of the video game tournament was to get kids interested in school activities that normally are not,” sad Addington, a science teacher who agreed to chaperone the tournament said. “Many of our students are not that interested in most things like rallies and games, so they might be interested in this.”
