To motivate seniors to attend school during STAR testing – which seniors do not participate in –Roseville High school developed the Senior Olympics last year and continued the event this year. Last year some teachers and administration noticed other schools in the area hosting an event called sports-aroma which gave the seniors an incentive to show up to school during testing.

Roseville liked this idea and decided to host their own event called Senior Olympics.

Last year was the first year the event took place, and the turnout was seven teams total opposed to this year’s eleven teams.

According to Josh Errecart, teacher at RHS and host of the event, this year’s good turnout has a lot to do with the fact that they heard of it last year and have been anxious and excited about it ever since.

“This year was a lot better because the students have heard of it, and the build up of it pumped the teams and made them very competitive,” said Errecart.

Dylan Grummich, senior at RHS and member of the winning team, signed up to be in Senior Olympics because all of his friends wanted to make a team.

“It was super fun,” said Grummich. “My favorite part was bonding as a team.”

According to Errecart, the dance competition got slightly out of hand, though Grummich disagreed.

“I enjoy hosting this event,” said Errecart. “It’s a great time and its great to see high school kids let loose and act like kids. My favorite part was chubby bunny.”

According to Grummich all of the students who participated were enthused the entire time, but it was not as entertaining for spectators.
