The annual local scholarship book is currently available to seniors that are planning to attend college and need financial help. Only students within the Roseville Joint Union High School District can qualify for the scholarships and the book has been put into an accessible online format by College and Career technician Cindy Travasso. All scholarship applications are due this Friday and need to be turned in together.

Students can find the online document on the RHS Web site, under the College and Career section. The booklet includes directions and guidelines for applying, as well as the deadline for applications and a note of thanks to the scholarship sponsors.

There are 51 scholarships listed, many of which are available exclusively to RHS students. The amounts of scholarship money range from $250 to $2,500. Along with merit scholarships, there are also athletic and volunteer scholarships.

The extensive booklet was put together with the intent of many students being eligible.

“All seniors should apply,” said Travasso. “There’s a scholarship program for everyone.”

Counselors also encourage students to consider many of the scholarship options that are within their reach in order to benefit their financial situation for college.

“I would apply for as many and as widely as possible,” said counselor Philomena Crone. “The more scholarships that students apply for, the greater the chances they have at earning a good amount of money.”

Despite the booklets aim to appeal to a wide variety of students within the district, some still may be unsatisfied by the low number of scholarships applicable to them.

“I think it’s helpful, but they can still do more,” says senior Chuck Dai. “I feel like a lot of scholarships are centered around certain areas. It should be more broad.”
