The fall sports season at Franklin Regional led to some great performances both on a whole level and individually.
This year’s boys soccer team started off exactly where last year’s ended in the regular season as they went 13-1-3 while beating Baldwin 2-0 in the quarterfinals of the WPIALS although they lost in the semifinals against Seneca Valley by a score of 1-0.
As on every team the soccer team had a couple standouts on their team that really carried the load for the Panthers.
Being awarded with All Section awards were Garrett Laird, Kevin Cala, Nate Ferri, and Spencer Jones as well as an honorable mention for Osman Khwaja.
Also receiving All WPIAL awards were Garrett Laird and Kevin Cala.
Garrett Laird also made the All State team for Pennsylvania.
This years Lady Panthers soccer team finished the regular season with an 11-6-1 record while making it to the playoffs by beating Southmoreland 1-0 in the WPIAL Preliminary Round, but they lost to Peters Township 2-0 in the first round of the WPIAL Playoffs.
There were a couple players from the Lady Panthers who were awarded with All Section awards.
Senior defender Katie Carson was awarded with All Section along with senior midfielder Meredith Gipson, junior midfielder Paige Foughty and senior goalkeeper Christine Pellegrino.
Christine Pellegrino also earned the title as an All WPIAL player.
The Franklin Regional Panthers football team ended the regular season with a 5-4 record, but they lost in the First Round of the WPIAL AAA playoffs to New Castle 53-20.
Earning 1st team honors for the Panthers were senior Wide Receiver D.J. Capezzuto, junior Tackle Sean Hickey, senior Tight End Preston Jones, junior Fullback Chris Pursley, and senior Defensive Lineman Marco Lodovico.
Earning 2nd team honors were senior Quarterback Anthony Vendemia, senior Running Back Josh Rager, senior Center Will Manfredo, senior Linebacker Jesse Samek, sunior Linebacker Matt Schantz, and sophomore Defensive Back Ryan Mihoci.
Also receiving honorable mentions were senior Guard Zach Young, senior Kicker Nathaniel Ondeck, junior Defensive Back Chad Bowman, junior Wide Receiver Josh Staniscia, and senior Linebacker Nathan Plonsky.
This year’s Franklin Regional Girls Volleyball team did not have a very good season if you were to look at the record column.
This year’s team went 3-9 in the regular season and missed the playoffs.
However despite the team’s dismal record there was one bright point of the team as sophomore Haley Young was a member of the first team All Conference.
This year’s fall season brought some great individual performances and there are more to look forward to in the upcoming winter sports season.
