Fundraisers are great for schools. On Friday, October 14, I went to a spaghetti dinner fundraiser for St. Mary School in Gilroy.
This is the 50th year that they have done the dinner fundraiser, which included some activities for guest such as music, dancing, and dinner.
This was all outside so people brought tables to set up there. If you didn’t have a table then you could find a nice patch of grass to sit on or purchase tickets to sit at a table.
What I found to be pretty cool was that the kids could be the DJ. If one of the students wanted to be a DJ, then they had to write a two-page essay explaining why they would want to be the DJ. If their essay was chosen then they got to be the DJ for 10 minutes and play the music they wanted, as long as it was school appropriate.
Before the fundraiser began, they had an auction for people to get reserved parking places. They had the parking lot filled completely. During the fundraiser they raffled off some prizes. There were some small prizes and some expensive prizes.
During the fundraiser I got to thinking that our school should have a dinner fundraiser. We could open up the football field. The Baler Barn could open up during that time and sell hamburgers and hot dogs. We could even get some of the students that are in bands to perform at the fundraiser. St. Mary, they generated within the hundreds of dollars. They had the money go towards the sports at the school to send them to Washington D.C. If we were to do a fundraiser at this school, we could raise money for the clubs. It could also be a good way for everyone to interact.
