“Be prepared for sardines and slamming doors,” Student Director Perrie Chen, senior, said of the spring play, “Noises Off!”

If this sounds confusing, then a visit to the set would clear things up. The cast of the play has been rehearsing since Jan. 22 and things couldn’t be going more smoothly. “There are less people so we get through more,” senior Kirstin Knobbe, who plays Brooke, said. “We are more productive.”

Written by Michael Frayn, “Noises Off!” is a comedy play within a play. The audience will get a glimpse of what it’s like to put on a production, and what all can go wrong. It also shows audiences how hard it is to prepare for a production, how crazy things get backstage and how much of a disaster a play can become.

“I tried out for the play because I thought it would be cool to do something different and modern,” senior Blake Mundell, who plays Frederick, said. “(This is) something that the students could really get into.”

“The audience for this play is directed more towards high school kids,” Chen said.

“There really are no leads,” Jadelle Thomas, director and drama teacher said. “Everyone has major roles.”

This play is different from other plays in that there are only nine people in the cast. Senior Mark Westhoff likes the small cast. “Everyone gets along and are easy to work with,” he said.

Besides the small cast, the set will be a bit more complex. The set for this year is two levels; it has an upstairs and downstairs with seven different doors. Chen not only has a part in the play, but she also designed the set and the stage crew is assisting her in building it.

Other participants in the play are seniors Stephanie Darbyshire, Geoff Davis and Shaun Degnan as well as sophomores Kaley Day and Andrew Westhoff. The play is will be performed on April 26 and 27 in the high school auditorium at 7 p.m.
