Now that spring is here and summer is almost underway, Lake Shore celebrates their outdoor sports, one of which is Boys’ track. Track events include hurdles, sprint, long distance and field events.

Both sprints and hurdle distances for Lake Shore runners range from 60 meters to 400 meters with a 3,000 meter steeplechase for hurdle runners. Long distance running ranges from 5,000-10,000 meters. Field events include shot-put, long jump, high jump, and discus throw. Track meets are held at Lake Shore, as well as other schools in the area, including South Lake, and Lakeview, which are considered Lake Shore’s top competitors this year.

As of last year, Lake Shore ranked 4th in the MAC Silver League Championship, and 14th at the MHSAA Reigonal 17-2. Coach Mantela promises that his team will improve their records this year, saying that “our dual meet record should be about 500. At invitationals, we shall be bringing back a lot of medals.” Mantela says the team is relying on its strongest runners, which include Kyle Medley, James Sirr, Matt Stetter, and Marcus Barnett. He also encourages his new atheletes to “run through the pain” when in the middle of events. The events that seem the most competitive for Lake Shore include the 400 meter, 800 meter, and 1600 meter relay, as well as the two-distance relay. When asked if he hopes to make it to the state-wide competition, Mantela optimistically responded that “we should be very competitive.”

Best of luck to our members of Boys’ Track, and we hope that you will work hard this season.
