On February 9th, New York City kicks off Mercedes-Benz fashion week. Worldwide famous designers such as, BCBGMAXAZRIA, Tommy Hilfiger, DKNY, J.Crew, Vera Wang, Calvin Klein, and Ralph Lauren show off their 2012 fall/winter collections. From fur to leather, designers put together their most fashionable pieces to show off.

Fashion makes up for a lack of confidence an individual may have, and it speaks the mind of men and women who are afraid to express themselves. It is an outlet for people to share their feelings without saying a word. “Fashion is the perfect opportunity to express our individualism, what you choose to wear and how you wear it, says a great deal about who you are as a person,” says Bruce W. Coffman. Major cities all over the world, such as Paris, London, and New York City, gather designers who put on runway shows, to show off their collections.

Peter Som, Jason Wu and Richard Chai were a few of the designers who made an appearance at New York’s 2011 Fashion Week. Trends consisted of native accents such as feathers, in which were created into hair accessories, earrings and necklaces. Tribal patterns, tuxedoes for women, and formal blazers over neon colors create a sportier look. This year’s trends are expected to consist of vintage looks such as floral patterns, silk overalls, men’s suits for women, and transparent organza. Compared to 2011’s trends, this year’s outfits are more simplistic, and subtle.

Fashion is a form of art. These designers, not only have skill to perform the tasks needed to create well, put together outfits, but they also have passion. Coco Chanel once said, “Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live and what is happening.” Without designers creating new styles, or new ways to combine different pieces together, the world would not be as colorful, creative, or exciting.
