Andrew Mastalski is seventy-three years old, and a fan of the Lakeland High School Dreadnaughts. He is also the donator of the Lego Dreadnaught Ship.

Matalski has been a fan of the Dreadnaughts since his daughter attended about twenty-one years ago. Since then he has had “season tickets”, and has gone to almost every game. While his daughter was attending LHS he started making ships to show his team spirit. He began with building hats in the shape of a Dreadnought ship, and recently added lights to.

Matalski purchased the Lego ship about five years ago. Then one day he decided that he wanted to build it. When asked why he built it he replied, “ I just wanted something to do for a few evenings.” He then gave it to the school so that when he was gone, the school could still have one of his ships.

The ship itself is approximately twenty six inches long, fourteen inches high, and ten inches wide. It is also equipped with a glass case, together the glass case and ship is about four pounds. The ship was built in four days. He then built the case around it and had the waves painted onto the sides by airbrush. The ship currently resides in the LHS guidance office.

Matalski’s grandson, Jake Price, who is a freshman at LHS, says he is very proud of his grandfather “He’s always doing little projects like this.” His wife, Angela Matalski, says that she too is proud of him, and points out that she helps him with his projects.
