Over the summer, two out of the ten students poled are planning to find a summer job to earn some extra cash for spending.

“If I could them (the students) any advice at all, it would be for them to spend time on the Internet this summer. They should visit websites like facts.org ad investigate scholarships, like Florida Bright Futures. We get so busy during the year; we don’t often have time to research things that are really important. There are all kinds of things out there to help kids plan for their high school years and life after high school,” says Tracy Collins, the assistant principal at LHS.

Three out of the ten students that were poled, are going to do just that, preparing for their next few years in high school or for their upcoming college years.

Like most teens in Florida, half of the students poled are planning to go to the beach at least once during the summer.

There are many opportunities for students to get volunteer hours over the summer. The Polk Museum of Art is one of the many organizations that are offering volunteer hours for high school students over the summer.

The most popular activity students are planning to do this summer is stay home, relax, and hang out with friends.

When asked what he was going to be doing over his summer break, T.j. Doohan, a sophomore at LHS, replied, “Playing World of War craft… and possibly taking an online course.” The 2005-2006 school year is rapidly coming to a screeching halt as the 2029 students of Lakeland High School are planning and anticipating the start of the summer.
