Journalism Class

by: Shoma Heid

Editor-and-Chief

Have you ever wondered what the journalism class is all about?  Journalism is an elective class for enriched students to challenge them and teach them more than a usual elective class.  Journalism is a class where students write stories/articles to publish in the plainsmen press.  While writing those stories they are given deadlines to meet.  These deadlines encourage students to manage their time wisely as to meet their deadlines.  It also gives us a beginning view of what making a newspaper is like.  In journalism you can express your personality through your stories.  For example, in my last story I told everyone that we would all get killed by aliens.  That is just my personality, humor. However, journalism is not just serious and strict, it is also fun.  When I asked Sam Empero what her favorite part of journalism was she said, “Being able to write about want you want to”.

In journalism we have celebrations for writing stories every once in a while.  These are rewards for a job well done to encourage us to do well.  When I asked Adrianna Rego if journalism was fun and why, she replied, “Yes, because it is an easy, yet challenging class”.  Meaning that journalism is challenging, but if you work hard it becomes easier and easier.  Also, it is a class where you can talk to friends on your free time.   This class is also a time to make friends.  When I asked Ken what part of journalism he did not like was that Sam Herriford was scary, but in Ken language it means that they are friends just having fun.   Sam Herriford’s favorite part of journalism is apparently making fun of me with Adri, is not she so kind.  Do not worry though, they are friends deep down inside, and I mean deep, we are friends.  With so much free time we can do a lot of things.  Nadya Speicher says that, “Doing homework from other classes and hanging out with friends” is why she likes journalism.

Even though journalism may seem hard and difficult, it is actually pretty fun.  While learning about writing and things, we have fun, so it is a good class to be in.  To me journalism is fun because already I have learned to incorporate my personality into stories and have fun with it. Also, making friends with everyone here is something positive.  Oh, check out my other stories, there is usually some weird hysterical moments in each of them.
