Brainiacs or Bullies-Who Will Have the Last Laugh?
It is a dark, rainy afternoon and he is crying in his room again. Everything is silent but the sound of sobbing and rain dropping on the roof. Then all of a sudden, the garage door opens and his parents come in, startled by the crying coming from up-stairs. They quickly rush up to their son’s room like the house is on fire. “They did it again, they did it again,” he sobbed as his parents rushed in the door. This is a great example of a child after he was bullied, because he gets good grades, at school. Being a brainiac is not a bad thing in fact it is a good thing, even though your feelings might get hurt. There are many reasons why it is a good thing.
In high school one may not think that good grades matter, but they actually do. They affect one in so many ways (that you might not think of) that lead you into a great future such as an application in college or a great job. Without college, you cannot get a job that will pay you a good salary, but without college you can still get a job but it will not pay you as much.
Do you play a Sport? Do you like UCLA or USC? Well if you do and you want to get into one of those colleges you need to get A’s and B’s (even if you are trying to play a sport). USC and UCLA have expectations needed from you, such as completing the specific course work and college admissions tests while earning the required GPA (a minimum of 2.8-3.0) and test scores. If you do not get good grades then one might not be able to fill those expectations at the highest or be accepted into either college or maybe any other college. According to www.nsf.gov there were, in 2003, 90,000 graduates. But as the economy worsens it is harder to get into a college you would like to attend.
What do the words nerd and braniac mean to you? Well to you it might mean some one who loves school or maybe cares about what they learn. To me it means many different things such as someone who cares about their future or what job they will get. Good grades mean knowledge and at this day and age, knowledge is power.
