Halloween Safety
By Molly Malin and Tabitha Kumar
Boo! The air is cold, and it is late at night. You and your friends run from door to door for candy. The neighborhood is filled with houses decorated by skeletons, spiders, grave stones, cobwebs, and pumpkins, their faces happy and sad. All of the sudden, you hear the loud cry of a chainsaw, the piercing screams of little kids, and you see a car racing towards you, spinning out of control. The Atmosphere of the night makes it obvious to everyone that it is Halloween.
This article will discuss tips on how to stay safe on Halloween, and how to have fun while doing it. For starters, you should always carry a flashlight or glow sticks because it will allow you to see better in the dark. When you go from house to house, getting candy, remember to always walk and never run, for you could fall and hurt yourself. Another helpful safety tip is to go only to lighted houses, but never go inside of them under any circumstances unless your parent or guardian approves of it. All of these tips are very useful because although Halloween is a night of fun, it is also very dangerous.
Did you know that children are four-times more likely to get hit or be killed in a car-pedestrian accident on Halloween night rather than any other night of the year? Although we may think we do not need our parents to watch us when we go trick-or-treating, or that we can stay out late past midnight with our friends, think about the consequences that could follow them. Halloween can be fun and exciting, but it also can be dangerous. Over the past years, children have been killed by speeding cars, kidnapped, and poisoned by tampered candy. The above incidents have happened on Halloween because people did not have parental guidance to keep them safe.
In conclusion, although Halloween is a night of fun, it can also be very dangerous. Many children’s lives have been taken on this night over the past years because they did not have any parental guidance. Taking the proper precautions will not only keep you safe on Halloween, but it will also help you during other dangerous nights of the year. The awesome night of Halloween may only happen once a year but we think that anybody’s safety is much more important than a little holiday. So, remember to stay safe on Halloween, but have fun while doing it.
