As the new school year starts, students begin to better their high school career by getting involved and taking advantage of the wide variety of clubs offered at Etowah High School. Many clubs strive for academic achievement and to better prepare students for their future careers.
Several clubs focus on one or more of the following; community service, academics, career goals and social activity. There are also service clubs at Etowah, which include; BETA Club, National Spanish Honors Society, Environmental Action Club, Super Friends and Y-Club. These clubs help the community through community service.
"Super friends is a great club because you get to know all of the kids and they are so sweet. I recommend this club to all that want to help others," Megan Vande Corput, sophomore, said. The Super Friends Club allows Etowah students to help special needs children by joining them in activities as well as befriending them.
Academic clubs at Etowah include Academic Bowl, Future Educators of America, Math Team, Model UN, Science Club, Spanish Club, Spanish Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, French National Honors Society and National Honors Society. To become a member of these clubs you must have above average, A’s, and ambition to participate.
Clubs at Etowah can also help one prepare for a career. Future Business Leaders of America, Future Farmers of America, Skills USA, Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps, and the Video and Technology Club are for students who are interested in pursuing a job in a certain field.
"Future Business Leaders of America participates in a variety of community service projects throughout the year that allows students to get involved in helping and improving their community. Anyone who is interested in any type of business is able to join," Lisa Carroll, career tech teacher, said.
Etowah also offers a wide variety of social clubs. These clubs range from First Priority, to Student Ambassadors and Leadership. There are no qualifications to join, just the willingness to serve the community and school.
There is a club for every student at Etowah High School, no matter what grade or interests.
"Student Ambassadors is a great club. Not only do we sponsor many activities, but you learn a lot from it all. It is a great experience and I highly recommend it to all who are interested," Matt Yarbrough, sophomore, said.
"While at Etowah all students should take advantage of the excellent clubs to meet new people, serve the community, and have a great time," Cathy Micali, sophomore, said.
Other clubs at Etowah include: Mountain Bike Club, Latin X-Plosion, Junior Optimist Club, Knitting Club, Dance Club, Anime Club, Music Club, Art Club, Skills USA, and the Family, Career, Community Leaders of America.
Etowah’s clubs are definitely something to take advantage of. These student based organizations are made up of students and teachers all working toward a common goal.
