The spring sports season, increasingly one of the busiest of the year, is already well underway at Briar Woods High School.

One of the most anticipated sports of the season, and a team to watch, is the Boys’ Varsity Lacrosse team, led by new head coach Bruce Lipson.

"I’ve been really pleased with how hard the team has been working," said Lipson. "There’s definitely a learning curve with me being new, and we’re taking baby steps."

Last year, the Boys’ Varsity Lacrosse team had a great season, and the team hopes this year will surpass it.

Captain and senior Matt Bukovac said, "This year we’re coming back with a faster, more athletic, and talented team. This is the best team we have put together in my four year tenure and we have the potential to go really far this season."

This season holds tests for the varsity athletes when they play Dominion High School, Stone Bridge High School, and Broad Run High School. Briar Woods High School has never played Stone Bridge in lacrosse, and the games are important in helping Briar Woods establish their dominance in the district and region. Coach and team alike hope to at least win a district championship this season.

The chemistry of this year’s team, the time they’ve put in during two-a-day practices, participation in the summer league, and their dedication to the sport will amount to the successful season they are so determined to make.

"It’s all about having fun and enjoying lacrosse. A lot of where I am now is because of lacrosse, and I want these boys to experience the same thing," said Lipson.
