New Assistant Principal Chris O'Rourke has joined the staff at Briar Woods High School. - Fizzah Abbasi
This month, Chris O’Rourke joined Briar Woods High School’s administration as its new assistant principal.

“I decided to work at Briar Woods because I know it’s a good school, and it’s closer to home,” said O’Rourke.

O’Rourke began his career as a math teacher in Fairfax County. “I became an educator because one of my strengths is seeing big picture items, and I’m good at solving problems,” O’Rourke says.

After working as an assistant principal at Broad Run High School for five years, and participating in the opening of Tuscarora High School in 2010, O’Rourke came to Briar Woods High School.

“The kids and teachers here are great…everything’s going exactly as planned,” says O’Rourke. “My experience here has been awesome so far.”

O’Rourke has a variety of jobs at Briar Woods, including discipline, supervising the hallways, and giving help and feedback around the school.

“A big part of my job is arranging buses for the field trips,” says O’Rourke. “Teachers email me their plans, and I coordinate the buses for them.”

Out of all the places O’Rourke has worked, he states that he has never seen more school spirit than at Briar Woods.

“I’m very impressed with the school spirit here,” says O’Rourke. “Briar Woods has a great staff and faculty, and I’m glad to be working here.”
