The beginning of the 2011-2012 school year brings many new and exciting things. Changes include laptops for everyone this year, new teachers, new students and the most noticeable change, the length of the school day. As many of the returning students know, the time for school release has changed from 3:05 to 3:15, and for students with part time jobs, this change poses a problem.

   A longer school day means students are now getting out of the parking lots much later. Because of traffic congestion, some students aren't able to get out of the parking lots until around 3:35, which mean students having to be at work at 4:00, have little time to change into uniforms, and are late arriving to work. Coming in late too many times, may have an adverse effect on students keeping jobs.

   On the other hand, if the students voice concerns about their schedules to their managers, it could mean a cut in their hours. This cut in hours could cause students to lose money they are saving for college, or using to pay bills such as Senior Assessments or car repairs.

   One solution to this problem would be parking closer to the student parking lot gates. This will enable students to get out quicker. Another solution is for students to bring uniforms to school and change right before work.

   Whatever the solution to these problems is, one thing is for sure, we all have to get used to a longer school day.
