What inspired you to be counselor?

My mom was a teacher and I like the idea of working in a school, but not necessarily in a classroom setting. I was also Uninspired by my own high school counselor who was really grumpy and unapproachable.

What were you like in high school?

I was a little shy but involved in a lot of different things-sports, dance, and choir. My favorite memories are of playing soccer club.

If you could change one thing about Case, what would you change?

People would be nicer to each other.

What are some of your favorite weekend actives?

I play hockey, soccer and ultimate Frisbee.

How did you become involved with GSA?

Three years ago, a student wanted to start a GSA and asked if I would be the advisor. How could I say no?

Do you think since Case has started a GSA, things such as bullying have changed?

I definitely think there has been an increase in awareness of LGBT issues. It seems like more students are willing to be open about which they are, and they feel safer doing so because of an increased sense of acceptance from staff and student. It’s exciting to see this subtle shift in our school culture.

What is your favorite memory of being a counselor?

I could never pick just one!

What is the best part of the job?

The best part is getting to know my students and being able to play a role in helping them be successful high school and whatever comes next.

What’s the worst part of the job?

Having to wake up at 7:00 am everyday.

When you found out you got a job at Case, what was your first reaction?

I was super excited to be able to work with an awesome counseling team.
