When the 2009-2010 school year started, a lot of questions were raised about the gift from the graduating class of 2009. The class had left over money in their “account” and left it to be used for TV's in the commons to scroll through announcements.
Rumors have been spread that the televisions are sitting in storage and the school hasn’t gotten around to putting them up. Dr. Tim Schaid wrote a grant to the city asking for multiple TV's to be mounted in the commons.
The school is currently waiting on a reply from the city and is expecting one sometime between March and summer. The TV's will not only be used for displaying the announcements but for other information the students may be interested in seeing. Dr. Schaid is looking at possibly displaying CNN or FOX News for students to watch. The TV's would also show upcoming sporting events or plays that the students should know about. Dr. Schaid said, “They would be just like the TV we had during the 9-11 attack; students’ eyes were ‘glued’ to the television.” The TV's will be on for people to watch at any time, but mainly during lunch. The TV's would be mounted on the columns around the commons.
The school is looking for flat screens but nothing fancy like a plasma screen. Phillip Buelow, a sophomore, said, “I definitely think it’s a good idea. It would be nice to keep the students updated and remind them of upcoming events that they may have forgotten about.”
