This year’s forensics team has done an amazing job. The team won both their conference and subdistrict meets. On February 8, Mishicot High School hosted Conference where the forensics team beat eight other teams, which earned them the Olympian Conference trophy. A week later, the team earned another victory at the subdistrict meet in New Holstein.
The forensics team had a fantastic performance at the district meet at Plymouth High School and Riverview Middle School on Monday, March 15. Forensics members had to earn twenty or more points in two out of three rounds in order to qualify for state. State was held on Saturday, April 17 at the UW-Madison campus. Of the team’s 17 competiting entries, 16 advanced to the state competition. Members who received gold awards at state included Emily Keuler and Cory Mortimer (Play Acting), Gina Geiser (Poetry), Reba Gruber (Prose), Jennifer Witt (Prose), Joe Bartel (Radio Speaking), and Maureen Villaca (Solo Acting). Silver awards went to Hannah Verrier (Demonstration), Caitlin Bloomer and Kelsey Schaid (Group Interp.), Sarah Nagel and Mikayla Sket (Play Acting), Shandell Hephner (Poetry), Brandy Hahn (Public Address), Nicole Katalinick (Solo Acting), Kendra Kobs (Solo Acting), and Steffi Sabel (Solo Acting).
Senior Kelsey Schaid said, "I think overall it was an excellent year for the forensics team. This is the first year I ever remember winning more than one meet and so many team members made it to state this year!"
