This year there are three new editions to the volleyball program. Freshman coach; Amanda Anspaugh, JV coach; Carrie Snider, and Varsity coach; Jeff Miller are the new gems.
Amanda Anspaugh previously taught 8 grade mathematics at The Middle School at Parkside. Now she is working at Jackson High School teaching different levels of Math.
“I was on vacation and received an e-mail that they were in desperate need of a freshman coach,” Anspaugh said. “I realized how much I loved and missed it at the middle school, so I decided this was my opportunity to get back into coaching.”
Freshman Noah Wood who made the freshman team this year absolutely loves Anspaugh as a coach.
“She makes all of us work hard by pushing us at practice and by challenging our skills,” Wood said. Anspaugh plans on staying a Viking for many years to come. Freshman’s record is 4-4 as of right now.
The new JV coach, Carrie Snider, is enthused to be back.
“I graduated from Jackson High and played volleyball. I loved it and knew I always wanted to stay involved with the game,” Snider said. “I felt that coaching was a good way to do that and I was excited to get back in the Jackson Public School system.” Snider loves working with all of the girls and pushes them to do their best, while having a good time.
“She laughs along with the rest of us which makes practice more fun,” sophomore Tess Lorr said. Even though Coach Snider and the girls know how to have fun, they know when to be serious.
“We all try and work hard in practice because we know if we don’t then there will be consequences. As a team we want to grow and win more games.” JV’s record is a nail biting 12-12.
Jeff Miller is the Varsity coach who already has high standards for his new team. Coming from Northwest last year as their JV coach. Miller is motivated  to become the Vikings leader as head coach. Not knowing any of the girls or teams that Jackson plays was a bit of a challenge, but already having set goals makes Jeff a well determined coach.
“I would like to finish this season over 500, and to do well in districts,” Miller said.
Varsity’s record is 7-7-4, but plan to add a win after Jackson faces their rivals.
“Lumen Christi would have to be our biggest rivalry, because I don’t know of the other teams in our conference,” Miller said.
Coach Miller realizes what a well-rounded group of young ladies he had.
Senior Taylor Thayer said, “He has changed everything for the better. From the defense we’re using to the pasta dinners before game day. He has helped bring out all of the potential that was hidden on last year’s team. This is the second year we have had a strong group of players, and Coach Jeff is using us to his advantage,” Thayer said.
