The Viking-A-Thon is an event that took place on Thursday, February 9. The event overall raised an estimate of $350 and did very well this year.
 This event is a way for the wresting team to raise money. It’s not just a normal fundraising event though. Money is raised by sponsoring a wrestler. There are two different ways to go about this. Donators can either, one, make a flat donation. Or the second method is paying money per takedown.
“We give each wrestler an hour and break it down into shifts, they try to get as many takedowns as possible in the hour,” Jackson High Varsity Wrestling Coach Steven Chapman said.
The Viking-A-Thon is also a good experience for the wrestlers to have. It builds up stamina and endurance for the team. The individuals wrestling must endure an hour of wresting with their opponent while trying to make as many takedowns as possible. The more pins made, the more money they raise.
“This is a real tough way for us to earn money, it really makes the kids hustle for their hour,” Chapman said.
Each wrestler can be sponsored. They receive money for the fund raiser by having money donated per takedowns, (for example .10 cents per take down.)
“Last year I was not sponsored so I’m really trying to do my part this year by getting as many sponsors as possible,” junior Tighler Truman said.
This fundraiser not only helps the wrestlers build endurance but also helps the team become more united and learn to lean on the other fellow team members.
“The best part for me is the team bonding and having the support of others is great,” Truman said.
