The time has come to be perceptive. It takes a keen eye to notice a subtle change like the lack of giant, conspicuous machinery in room M3.

The room, located across from the tech lecture hall, was previously filled with hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of manufacturing machinery. It was cleared out earlier this year because the equipment was collecting dust. It has not been since 4 years ago when Mrs. Alison Cardona taught the CAD/CAM program at RHS.
The manufacturing equipment was difficult for students to utilize effectively because most of it was not of industry grade. Over time, students interest had waned and enrollment in the CAD/CAM program had dropped. When Mr. Daniel Frank took over the program, he merged drafting and manufacturing classes to form an engineering program, which had no use for the manufacturing lab.

Upgrading the machinery to fit with the new program was not practical, so it was sold on an online auction website called interschola.com. The $5,000 from the online sales was put back into the school’s maintenance and facilities budget.

The next step is to finish clearing out the room and try to get it put into a new use. Mr. Frank is working with the district office to get approval to build a woodshop. He currently has tentative approval for the project, but it is not official yet. It is expected to be a 2 to 3 year process, and will require new equipment.
Though the current generation of Rocklin High School students will probably not get the opportunity to take a woodshop class, future students will be able to take advantage of this new course.
