It appears the polar bears are a less than happy about the destruction of their natural habitat by humans, because they seem to have attempted to get revenge. On Friday, April 10, a thirty-two year old woman was gravely injured when she climbed over a fence and vaulted into the moat in a polar bear exhibit at the Berlin Zoo during feeding time. The police reported that it was only one of the four bears that attacked and bit her numerous times after she plunged into the habitat. The zoo workers tossed the woman several rescue rings in order to raise her out, and to distract the pursuing polar bears as well. At one point, the woman dropped back into the water and was grabbed by one of the bears before she was finally able to be pulled to safety. The woman is currently being treated at a hospital for her many severe wounds. The woman’s reason for jumping into the exhibit is still unknown, but she was later issued a citation for trespassing by the Berlin police.
