Spring is here again, which means that Brevard High School’s spring sports teams are ready for a new season. Sports like track and field, tennis, baseball, softball, and ladies’ soccer are big topics around the Brevard High School hallways.
A new season means a new time for growth also. Freshman Trey Smith, who participates in track and field, said, “This year has gone great so far. I think I have grown a lot throughout this season.”
Freshman Yahir Galarza, who plays tennis, said, “I have enjoyed this season a lot! My team and I have learned so much from my coach, and from each other. We act like a family.”
At the most recent game, the Brevard Lady Devils soccer team win 1-0 against West Henderson’s Lady Falcons on March 28. The only goal was scored by sophomore Rachel Holmes. Sarah Borhaug blocked four shots, helping the team gain a victory. Meanwhile, the Lady Devils softball team lost to Tuscola on Wed, 9-7. They were winning 6-1 towards the middle of the game, then Tuscola made a surprising comeback. Look in the Transylvania Times sport section for more information about the Transylvania’s sports events.
Recreational leagues are another option. Transylvania County’s recreation department has youth, adult, and senior leagues, along with five baseball fields available for public use at certain hours. Silvermont Mansion has three tennis courts and a nature trail for public use also. Visit www.transylvaniacounty.org for more information.
