With an early 1-1 record, the Holy Family boys soccer team is off to a hopeful start.  Hoping to obtain a better record than last year, they are keeping their spirits and strategy alive.

Their captains for the 2010 season are senior Brett Gross and sophomore Preston Arguello.

Gross feels many pressures as a captain.  He said, “Trying to get the team organized, everyone’s spirits up and morale boosted all while I step up my play as well will be my challenges.”

The manager for the 2010 season is junior Braden Fallet. Although Fallet played last year, he decided to switch his role to the team manager.

“I wanted to be involved with the team, and I knew I would be more helpful as a manager rather than a player,” said Fallet.

According to Arguello, the team’s ultimate goal is to make it to the playoffs, which they failed to do last year.

The team has played two games so far in the season. Their first game was held at Arvada High School, where they beat the Bulldogs 4-2.  The Tigers, however, lost 5-0 against Berthoud last Wednesday.

“They had a lot of good shots and definitely a lot of hustle,” said senior Amy Baumberger, who watched part of the game against Berthoud.

The team traveled to Holland this summer, which, according to Gross, helped the team’s play and strategy because it showed them a whole different side of soccer.

“I think that playing the Dutch teams helped our team in general because it is a whole different game over there, so we really learned a lot,” said Gross.

According to Arguello, the hardest competitor of the season will either be Peak to Peak, who they will play on Oct. 12, or Kent Denver, who they play on Oct. 14.

The game against Faith Christian, however, is the most anticipated game, according to Gross.  The Faith will be held here at Holy Family on Sept. 28.

“Faith will be our biggest game because they are our biggest rival and it is during our Homecoming week,” said Gross.

Although the team is considered to be pretty young, according to Arguello, most of the starters are sophomores, they are developing the dedication and teamwork to win games.

“So far, I’ve noticed we have a strong team.  This year should be a good one,” said Fallet.
