Lucky Pie, located in Louisville on 637 Front St., Louisville, CO 80027 is a new wave organic pizza parlor whose menu deemed nothing short of interesting to the 2012/2013 Lamp Post staff.

When the newspaper staff walked into Lucky Pie, we expected more of a classic pizza experience rather than seeing some of the more organic choices that were on the menu.

“I feel like this place is way too hipster for all of us.  I don’t know what half of the meals on this menu even are,” said junior staff writer Gabby Wilson.  The meal began with our adventurous decision to try the Chicken Liver.  The appetizer turned out to be exactly how we expected as it was widely disliked throughout the staff.

“The liver has such a strange texture.  It tastes a lot of what I imagine cat food would taste like,” said junior staff writer Tess Cartin. The staff also decided to be safe and order the Bread Sticks in hopes that they would be a good start to our appetites.  “The bread sticks were strange and not what I expected.  I would say they are more like bread twigs rather than classic bread sticks,” said Wilson.

Having been all but satisfied with the first course, it seemed wise to ask the waitress what the restaurant was famous for and what entrée their customers enjoyed most.  She recommended that we order two of their 13” pizzas made from ‘organic Colorado flour’ for the table.
Trusting her seemingly good knowledge of the restaurant, we ordered a Popeye Pizza that is topped with spinach, fontina, mozzarella, grana podano, pecorino, garlic and olive oil for a typical price of $12.

We also chose a Meat Lovers Pizza topped with pepperoni, capicola, salami genoa, mozzarella, calabrian peppers and san marzano tomato sauce, since the Popeye seemed quite vegetarian. Some comments from the newspaper staff were positive of the Popeye.

“I wasn’t quite sure what to expect but the Popeye Pizza was strong all the way to the finish,” said Wilson. Some, like junior staff writer Olivia Quinn, also enjoyed the Meat Lovers pizza.  “It was spicy and all of my meaty desires were met.  It was pure ecstasy,” said Quinn.

There were mixed emotions as junior staff members Joe Woeste and Makayla Welham complained about the pizza being lacking in the sauce department.  “It just seems like there should have been more sauce,” said Woeste.

The contemporary style of the Louisville pizza joint was a fascinating experience for the Lamp Post staff.  “I don’t think that I’ll be going back there any time soon,” said Welham.
