The Carol City Chiefs take on Eugene Smith and the Miramar Patriots. The Chiefs have bounced back from a franchise low 2-8 season last year and are back and better than ever. The Chiefs have won eight straight games and look forward to the ninth one. The Miramar Patriots, also with a winning season, are led by Quarterback Eugene Smith and ex- Chief wide receiver Stedmen Bailey. The showdown is at Traz Powell Stadium where the Chiefs are the host. The game was predicted to be a game that would go down to the wire the Chiefs aggressive defense and the Patriots unstoppable offense.
The game started with the Chiefs getting the ball first. The quarterback, as well as return specialist Devonte Mathis, returned the kick 58 yards, giving the Chiefs excellent field positioning. The Chiefs scored with haste with a flea flicker from Mathis to wide receiver Allen Hurns for a quick and easy 6 points. They missed the kick for the extra point leaving the score at 6-0. After a great defensive effort, The Chiefs forced a three and out and got the ball right back. After a decent drive, Quarterback Mathis ended it with a 2 yard touchdown run, yet once again missed the extra point giving the Chiefs a 12-0 lead. The Patriots behind but not forgotten had their sights on answering. They received the kickoff and got good field positioning. The Patriots Quarterback Eugene Smith, went for the score on a second and ten by throwing a long pass down the sideline and connecting with ex- Chief wide receiver Stedmen bailey, for the Patriots first score of the game. At the half it was a 12-7 game with our chiefs ahead.
To start the third quarter the patriots got the ball and scored after exhausting our defense with a long drive. Then the Patriots defense stepped up and stopped the Chiefs and got their offense back the ball in a hurry. The Patriots scored again, giving them the lead 21-12. The Chiefs, after their two drive drought, came back with a scoring drive and a strong defensive stop and another scoring drive both lead by QB Mathis putting the Chiefs back on top 26-21. With the clock working against them, the Patriots started their last drive with 19 seconds left in the game. Trying to keep their playoff run alive the Patriots Quarterback Eugene Smith threw a prayer down field to the end zone answered by Patriots wide receiver Terrence Gourdine, with the clock running out giving the Patriots the lead to end the game 28-26, knocking our mighty Chiefs out of the playoffs.
