Have you ever thought what exhibits Los Angeles County Museum of Arts (LACMA) might have? This uniquely modern museum has over 150,000 artworks displayed in their exhibits. It is the one of the best, well-known museums in Los Angeles. The museum was founded in 1910 but was established as a museum in 1961. It is located on 5905 Wilshire Boulevard in Los Angeles. Its hours are from 12 am to 8 pm from Monday to Thursday, on Friday it closes at 9 pm and on the weekends it opens at 11 am and closes at 8 pm. They are entirely closed on Wednesday. LACMA has been adding buildings since the time it was made. From its distinctive architecture you will know that this can only be in the great Los Angeles County.
One of their latest exhibits called Fabiola is showing from September 7, 2008 to January 4, 2009. It is an exhibit full of Francis Alÿs’ paintings. It also involves his different paintings of the Roman Saint Fabiola which he got inspired by the missing portrait of Jean-Jacques Henner’s Fabiola. The Fabiola exhibit includes some artworks that are in forms of wood relief, needlepoint and other materials.
Alÿs is a well-known artist in South America from Mexico but was born in Antwerp, Belgium in 1959. His paintings are displayed in many places around the world such as in the famous museums in Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Spain, Argentina, France and New York. His art that is recently exhibited at LACMA has been gathered from flea markets, antique shops, and private collections through out Europe and the Americas. Alÿs’ has always given his artworks an urban flare to them.
I personally think this is a great exhibit for people to visit because it shows people that even though Alÿs based his portraits of Saint Fabiola on one image he used his imagination and made many creative artworks of the same image but with different moods and styles. So in other words, if you are creative you can make many from one simple thing. Be creative and enjoy life. If you incorporate more art in your life you will start to notice that you are improving in other parts of life.
