Last Friday the Bandera Bulldogs boys basketball team sought revenge on the Canyon Lake Hawks and behind a motivated crowd, the Dogs felt the crowd’s energy coming out on top with a 71-63 win.
In the first period, Bulldogs junior Jeff Jensen exploded for 6 points, contributing to a 14-9 lead at the end of the first.
The second period was a different story for the Bulldogs as they allowed the Hawks to trim their lead, scoring only 13 points to the Hawks’ 15. Leading scorers for the Dogs this half were: Derek Draper with 7, and Eric Pompa and Jensen with 6 each, bringing the first half score to 27-24 Dogs.
In the third period, the Dogs started off strong and stayed strong scoring 16 points and holding the Hawks to 13.Draper contributed with 5, and James Stendebach with 4.
The Dogs exploded in the fourth for 28 points with Jensen (9) leading the way and Draper and Dustin Lindner adding 4 each. The Hawks scored 26 in the fourth, but they were unable to surmount the Bulldogs offensive attack.
“Great win for our boys. They worked hard and deserved a positive outcome. We were able to keep scoring at the end when they put on pressure,” said Head Coach Brett Morris. For the win, leading scorers were Jensen with 17, Draper 16, and Pompa with 11.
The Dogs take on the Fredericksburg Billies Tuesday at home at 7:45.
