The Bandera Bulldogs baseball team had a quiet, but disappointing week owing to the continuing rains which flooded the fields.  With only one game played last Tuesday, the Bulldogs battled the district leading Boerne Greyhounds and were ten-run ruled in 5 innings losing 11-1 and pushing their district record to 3-3 with four games remaining.  Friday’s game against the Canyon Lake Hawks was rescheduled for last night and the ‘Dogs suffered a tough loss 9-3.  The loss means that the ‘Dogs will have to “win-out” their remaining schedule to make the play-offs.

The Boerne game got off to a promising start as senior Davis Morrow took the second pitch of the game over the left field wall to put the Bulldogs ahead 1-0.  Morrow leads the district with five HR’s for the season.  The Greyhounds countered back with three runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning, making the score after one 3-1 Boerne.

It was all downhill for the ‘Dogs after the first as they would get only one more hit off of Boerne’s winning pitcher senior Ross Kennell courtesy of senior Cisco Ruiz in the bottom of the third.

The Greyhounds would score 8 over the next four innings, led by senior Lance Tully, who went 2 for 4 with 3 RBIS.

Bulldog pitcher senior Brandon Zook took the hill for the ‘Dogs and pitched three strong innings, but six errors and tight Greyhound pitching gave Zook the loss.  Still, Zook has the fifth best ERA in the district, with a 4.15 according to the Pressbox services.com website.  Sophomore Nick Palacios owns the district leading ERA with a 2.20 over five games.

Tonight the ‘Dogs face a tough rematch against Fredericksburg at home at 7PM and then must travel to Wimberley away on Friday night.
