(June 16, 2010) -- Twenty minutes of killer shuffles, 15 crunches, and seemingly endless mile runs were just a part of the bittersweet experience that is in Chris Axelgard’s P.E. class. Several students expressed that a glance of the class would remind someone of a military campground. While some students were lucky to participate in sports teams at their home school, others were stuck in this 90-minute boot camp, as some referred to it.

As students stretched and ran in the gym, Axelgard would play music in order to keep students’ moods high. "Every day he would put I Like to Move It during shuffles," senior Erin Mooney said. Many students despised the exercise due to the blistered feet it caused. However, not everyone despised the monotonous routine. Senior Tevolinda Semerjyan said, "It was fun and I enjoyed doing it, especially when the music was on."

Axelgard often enjoyed poking fun at freshmen males calling them ‘sheeple,’ when they had a hard time understanding his directions and instead followed each other’s wrong actions. "He was more lenient towards girls and understood their feminine needs," senior Noor Ghssoub said. Mooney’s opinion was similar to Ghssoub’s; she enjoyed "not being a freshman guy," in Axelgard’s class.

However, the class didn’t only require hard work and exercise; when the summer months brought the long hot days, Axelgard turned on the sprinklers and allowed his students to run through them. For some, it was one of the most enjoyable experiences they had.
