When President Barack Obama was elected to office in 2008, the weary citizens of the United States breathed a sigh of relief; they thought their troubles and worries would soon be assuaged by the new administration. They thought that Obama’s promise of “hope” would be the much anticipated antidote to their economic woes. However, results of this midterm election clearly show that the people of the United States are sorely disappointed in the lackluster results of the Obama Administration. In the wake of this crushing disappointment, the Republican Party has experienced a great resurgence; ready and willing to meet the needs of the clamoring public.
In the last few years, the state of the domestic economy has skyrocketed to the top of the “most important issues” list. This was due to the collapse of the banking and auto industries, the “popping” of the housing bubble, and the general recession that gripped the nation. Obama pledged to solve these many problems and restore America’s economy back to its former glory; a pledge that caught the attention of a disenchanted electorate; a pledge that won him the presidency. However, the economy remains relatively stagnant with little to no progress being made. Unemployment is cemented around ten percent, the highest since the Great Depression. The national debt is approaching 14 trillion dollars, the highest in history. The value of the dollar is weakening and paling in comparison to that of the Euro and other foreign currencies. All of these economic discrepancies have allowed for renewed interest and loyalty to the Republican Party.
The Republican Party has taken advantage of the ineptitude of the Obama administration and has rallied the embittered public around their cause. Their condemnation of the vast amounts of federal spending by the Obama administration has struck home with many citizens. Suspicious of the validity and necessity of the unprecedented amounts of money being spent, citizens are starting to question if it is wise to increase a deficit that has become the largest in American history. Americans have also grown concerned with the Health Care Reform, a revamped plan that grants the government new powers in regulating health care. Many believe this to be a complete overstepping of the power of government, and see it as intrusion on the laissez-faire nature of the United States. These doubts have led Americans to look for new political leadership and counsel. The Republican Party advocates the ideals to which Americans are wishing to return to: normalcy and rationality.
The Republican Party has risen to the challenge of aiding and assisting the bereaved citizens, and their continued success is further proven by their winnings at the midterm elections. These results show that the Republican Party has experiences a complete renewal and has once again gained the confidence of America.
