School mascot Chastity Gonzalez carries freshman Christine Gonzalez during the walk-a-thon at the Brooklyn Bridge.
During the week of March 16, one of the most anticipated events of the year was celebrated: Spirit Week.
The Student Council planned several activities that were full of entertaining and exciting affairs. Some of the following highlights were: Jeopardy & Wacky Tacky Day, Twin Day, the Blood Drive, St. Patrick’s Day, and the feast day of St. Joseph (including the famous walk-a-thon).
The school was divided into two teams, which were Gold and Blue. Both teams participated in various activities in order to gain points for their team score. Even though it was competitive,   SJHS students continued to spread the spirit of being one.
On twin day, students contributed by pairing up with a member of their team and dressing alike as if they were “twins.” Everyone was full of enthusiasm and energy to pump up the week.
“GO GOLD! GO BLUE!” were the cries heard from students of each respective team. Rivalry between the teams made the students strive for success. Donations were also collected by students as a fundraiser to refurnish the computers in Room 303.
To close up the exciting week, on March 19 SJHS joined together at St. Boniface   Church for a prayer   service for our patron saint, St. Joseph. Afterwards, students gathered back at the school to see a Step performance with the faculty as well.
The school then walked across the Brooklyn Bridge led by our school mascot, Chastity Gonzalez.
Chastity shared a few insights on what she thought of spirit week. “As a Lady Cougar, I think I ‘grrred’ our way into spirit fun!” she said.
In the end, the Blue team was awarded as the champions of spirit week. “Spirit week was okay, and having the blue team win was a great way to end my last spirit week,” said Senior Ana Rodriguez.
