On the morning of March 31, the junior class along with Mrs. Christy and other members of the staff gathered in the Little Theater to discuss important details of one of the most anticipated events for the class this year – Junior Recognition Day,
also known as ring day. This special ceremony, which has become a tradition at SJHS, will take place on May 8 at St. Boniface Church.
     Among one of the things discussed at the meeting was the color of the roses, which are blessed and given to each junior during the ceremony. Each color has a different meaning. Inside each rose, the school ring is found. This is one of the most important parts of the ceremony; it officially welcomes the junior class to their last year of high school – a new year that will be filled with hard work and big dreams as they begin their journey towards college.
     One of the traditions is for the class to pick a song they identify with and sing at the ceremony. This song will represent the message they want to convey as the Class of 2010.  One of the favorite ones discussed at the meeting was “The Climb” by Miley Cyrus.
     “I think many of us can really identify with the lyrics of this song,” said junior Janet Guarneros.
     “I love this song. I have it in my iPod!” expressed other students as well.
     As the lyrics say “Ain’t about how fast I get there, ain’t about what’s waiting on the other side. It’s the climb.” This song represents the future that awaits for these students, as they take off to college.  
     Although some agree it might be a challenge for the class to perform it due to its high and low notes, most juniors are thrilled about singing this song, and hope that this song will be the final pick.
   “I know we will do a good job,” said Junior Vanessa Calderon. “It’s not about how well we sing it; it’s about the feeling and effort we’ll put into that will make it an unforgettable moment.”
     The juniors are looking forward to share this special moment with the rest of the school, family members and close friends. Everyone is welcome to join them on this important day.
