While the Step, Speech, and Cheerleading teams did their thing on April 25, St. Joseph High School held a reunion at St. Michael’s Cathedral.
The reunion, which marked our school’s 105th anniversary, was for all SJHS alumni. However, it was especially important for the Class of 1959, which celebrated its 50th reunion.
There was a mass held from 11am to 12pm. During the mass, the women who attended read a few biblical citations and even helped current St. Joseph girls sing hymns such as the Alma Mater.
The dance club performed during this event, and members of the National Honor Society were also in attendance.
A luncheon followed the mass in which former students had the chance to catch up with former friends and teachers. The women there spent their time reminiscing and taking pictures as well as looking through old yearbooks.
The majority of the alumni there commented on the uniform that was worn by the hostesses that afternoon. “When I was at school the uniform was green, brown, burgundy, gray, or blue depending on the year,” said a graduate from the Class of 1959.
A few students also found out that there used to be a separate building for the freshmen in the earlier years of St. Joseph High School.
At the end the day, there was a raffle that was $10 a ticket although there were discounts for multiple tickets. First prize was $5,000, second was $3,000, and third was $2,000, which led to many tickets being sold. A graduate from the ’60s purchased the most tickets a total of 50 tickets.
“I had so much fun catching up with people I lost contact with over the years. I didn’t even recognize some of the girls because we all look so different,” said a graduate from the Class of 1982.
As you might have already guessed, everyone had a great time at the reunion. It makes you wonder what yours will be like, doesn’t it?
