Even though last year wasn’t quite what the St. Joseph’s Basketball Team expected, the team still keeps moving forward into the 2009-2010 school year.
The coach, Mrs. Amante, said that last year the team was able to reach most of its goals. Working together and having a positive attitude, along with working ethics they were able to make it to the playoffs. “
“Last season was a lot of fun, a mixture of hard work and change,” team member Fotini Illipolous commented. “We had our ups and downs but we managed to pull it off. All our games were fun either win or loss. We kept our head high and tried harder.”
In regard to how well they will play this year, Mrs. Amante would like the school and community to understand that the team does not improve in just one season and that what the team needs is a time commitment of several years to bring them along. To start off the year the basketball players work on their talents and work ethics, as the fundamentals are reviewed.
Mrs. Amante feels that this year she is more prepared than last year and has even made some new arrangements for the team. This year she would like to work overtime with the team to develop the discipline to do every drill and practice everyday, even though this isn’t possible at times. This is another reason why they are looking for a specific kind of team player.
The basketball team has already begun workouts and will be holding tryouts within the next few weeks. When asked, team members have stated that they want their new team members to have some type of experience with basketball. They also want the girls to be dedicated, persistent, show teamwork, be motivated, help one another and always keep their heads up despite a win or a loss. If any girl is interested, she should contact Mrs. Amante for more information.
“Winning team expects to win. Attitudes have to change because they can become a huge obstacle,” said Ms. Amante when asked what is expected from the team this year. “This team will rise up and reach out!”
The season will start November 7 and end February 14. Students and faculty are encouraged to come and support their school team, especially at home games.
