Each year St. Joseph High School has an Open House. This is a way for SJHS’s students to demonstrate how they live out the Alma Mater.
This year’s Open House will be held tomorrow from 5:30-7:30 pm. St. Joseph’s students will assist in giving tours and showing their many talents to those who attend.
Working together to come up with a new and exciting way to show off their school, SJHS’s students are excited to bring something new to the table this year. Students who aided at last year’s Open House felt it was a new experience and a way to branch out and show other sides to them.
One senior, Ashley Sims, said she wanted to help welcome new students to the school and she put her talent in to the Art Department and Step to show the students about fun activities in the school. “I faced my fear of performing in front of people and showed my artistic side,” said Ashley, as she explained how fun it was to participate.
Saint Joseph’s very own principal, Sister Joan, enjoys students selling the school each year. It shows how they feel about their school and this year there is an Open House Committee who working along with Mr. Touhey to try and get alumni and parents in hope that they would help out with Open House.
Sister Joan also tells us about a new Recruitment Campaign where they send cards out to students in Junior High who would possibly attend the Open House this year. She feels that it will help the Open House population increase this year and get more students.
There was also a concern about SJHS’s feeder schools, Junior High Schools that pair up with SJHS for students to attend once graduated, and if it would affect the number of students attending next year. “Out of 9 of the schools that closed only one-third of those schools are our feeder schools…Parents might send their kids to a public school and then save up in order for their child to attend a Catholic High School,” Sister Joan states after being asked if the loss of feeder schools would affect Saint Joseph.
“When we go on Recruit, Academics, Activities, Accessibility, and Affordability all together make us a very good choice for young women and their parents. Everyone can see that we are providing an optimal environment that we educate young women to make a profound impact on our world,” says Sister Joan as she explains the four A’s of Saint Joseph High School
