Is this the year for the girl’s varsity soccer team?

Our girls varsity team has already picked up the pace, in the New Year, the soccer team

went from the grassy fields of California to the southern fields of Texas. They stayed in Houston for the begining weekend in January, and even though they didn’t win the tournament, they brought back good experience, hope and ambition for future games. It was time to bend it like Beckham.

"It was still pretty fun and a great experience. Every one did their best," says Junior Jessika Oseguera.

Back in California they beat Norwalk, La Mirada, and Artesia, making them undefeated in league. But the girl’s don’t take the title to their heads.

"Winning league is important, but I’m hoping they just feel

confident and improve in games." says Head Coach Sal Marroquin.

When asked about certain strategies and how they can trying to improve in games Assistant Coach Amy Bellomo responded, "We are doing well, but a little inconsistent at times." She adds with a laugh. And right now the team is just focused on kicking the ball and kicking butt. On Jan. 12 our fearless champion Monsoons faced Artesia High School showing nothing but good

sportsmanship and fierce moves as they defeated them, 4-0.

So far this certainly looks like the year of the "soccer ball."
